McIntosh C12000 Twin-Chassis Preamp / Controller Introduced

The NEW McIntosh C12000 Twin-Chasis Preamp/Controller, is a unique two-chassis design that isolates the audio section of the preamplifier from the control and power sections. They claim that both parts are designed to produce the purest sound reproduction possible.

The C12000 is comprised of two units- the C12000 Controller Module and the second is the C12000 Preamplifier Module.  Both are intended to work together when connected. All power control, data ports, and external control connections are located on the C12000 Controller. Dual isolated power supplies drive the left and right channels separately, while a dual microprocessor is included for a robust control system.

The C12000 Preamplifier Module houses the audio connections and circuitry with the left and right channels electrically and mechanically isolated to enable true dual mono operation. This method results in the ultimate stereo separation and sonic purity. The controller and preamplifier units are connected using high-performance cables that are specifically designed to prevent outside noise from leaking into the audio signal. The phono stage utilizes four 12AX7A vacuum tubes, with two valves per channel in a fully balanced configuration incorporating RIAA equalization.

Moreover, The Sound Advocate has been advised that the C12000 offers both vacuum tube and solid-state output for maximum flexibility of listening options. The C12000 employs fully balanced circuitry to match the level of performance achieved in any of McIntosh’s Quad Balanced amplifiers.

Additionally, the C12000 being paired with various amplifiers, speakers, and source components, can be seamlessly integrated within a multi-channel home theater system via the Home Theater Pass Through feature.

Both units feature a stainless-steel chassis, polished to a mirror finish, alongside hairline brushed black Titanium stainless steel. Then, of course, there are also the iconic black glass front panels, blue meters, and custom machined-brushed aluminum handles.

Pricing & Availability: McIntosh is accepting orders for the C12000 via authorized McIntosh dealers. Units should begin shipping in December 2021 for customers in the United States and Canada. The rest of the world will receive units shortly thereafter.

The suggested retail price is $8,000 (£8,495) per module, which means a total of $16,000 (£16,990) for both units (VAT, shipping and any customs duties related to current standards of individual countries are excluded).

  1. My sympathy to the design slaves at McIntosh who were forced to create this technically absurd piece of market-driven exotica; a product that only an audiophile* could love.
